Options

General Options

File Locations:

The default location is in the End Users My Documents folder. We can change the default location if required. You can also change the preferred location yourself.

Sync Options.

This allows you to choose the sync interval, including never. There is also an option to allow the mirroring of local deletes on the SharePoint site. The default setting is currently set to off.

File Back-up.

Whenever a server file is updated and the sync causes the local file to be over-written or deleted, we keep a safety back-up copy in a local folder. You can choose here how many copies of any file you would like to keep and you can also change the location of these files from the default location.

Note:  This is a powerful feature of the software since it automatically versions changes to the local cache, avoiding you inadvertently losing either updates or a complete document. It is totally at your discretion as to how many default copies keep.

Only changes in the local cache are versioned, so the file requirements are modest.  The feature can be changed as to how many copies are retained, from none, through to every backup copy.

Advanced Options

There are three groups of advanced options:

Database reset;

Master reset takes the software back to the factory default state. It does however give you the option to make a copy of all your local files before it deletes your off-line cache.

Reset Sync. This will instruct Revelation to re-check every file in the SharePoint site against the status held for that file held in the database.

Logging;

Revelation keeps a revolving log for IT use at all times. If the user clicks export data log it will copy this log into Offline files for the user to email to IT Support.

The combination of the following three options ensures support issues are easy to handle at arms length:

Back-up Management.

The three back-up management options allow you to open your back-up folder. The files here will be in exactly the same file structure as SharePoint but only modified or deleted files will be here.   That means that files that were synchronised down but have not subsequently been updated or deleted will not appear in the backup folder.

You can delete all the back-ups, or you can selectively delete the back-ups older than a certain date.
